Good news, we’re self-isolating due to the Coronavirus, aka COVID-19. It’s been well over a week since we’ve all been at home. HF is working from home, Khalid and Musfira’s school has been indefinitely postponed and Iman was already homeschooling so here we all are, home. Together. All of us. Plus my mom, who lives with us now. She just brought me a bowl of peanuts mixed with cheerios. She’s like our Quarantine snack stewardess. Khalid and Musfira are playing chess in the kitchen. I present to you, the live play by play.
Khalid: I see, so you are attempting totalitarian control.
Musfira: HORSEY!
Khalid: If you put your horse there then my queen can take it.
Musfira: No, because that’s not a horse it’s a NINJA!
Khalid: The tables are turned!
Musfira: I like the other one.
Khalid: Galileo?
Musfira: Galileo!
Together: GALILEO FIGARO! MAGNIFICOOOooOOOOooOOOOooo
Musfira is humming tunes from Frozen. Khalid is singing Queen. Together, their game of chess is a random assortment of joyful noise interspersed with periodic gasps and triumphant cackling. I’m coming to you live from the armchair in the living room, wishing I had recorded more from our amusing collective past, stressed over the global pandemic, but also newly committed to better blogging. I am going to write something every day from Quarantine, InshaAllah, even if it’s just randomness. I want to get back into the habit again, InshaAllah.
